As many of you know, members of the 8 Shields international community have been travelling to the Kalahari Desert each year, to visit and collaborate with a community of San Bushmen. The Origins Project, an initiative of 8 Shields Institute, has a vision of continuing this important relationship and building a foundation of support for the community. March 14th to 21st, 2020 is the 8 Shields Origins Project’s Annual Working Group journey, partnering with a San Bushman Community for education and connection development.
Our San friends are a community of Indigenous hunter-gatherer Bushmen in the Kalahari of southern Africa, committed to preserving their deeply nature-connected culture. This community and its elders are also invested in helping other communities around the world to realize the importance and practice of relating intimately with the land for the greater well-being of the global community. Part of this outreach has involved the beginnings of a dialogue across various communities around topics of connection, well-being, and relationship with the Earth and each other -- and the healing potential within the ongoing development of nature-connected communities.
This year, the 8 Shields Origins Project needs your tax-deductible donations to help bring an Indigenous Elder from North America, along with our core design team, and a media team, on our annual visit to the Kalahari. The purpose of supporting the Elder’s travel includes fostering an intercultural dialogue around topics of reciprocity, addressing cultural appropriation concerns, growing our understanding of connection modeling and deepening cultural resilience. The core design team will spend time developing our partnership agreement with a San community committed to cultural renewal, and the media team will record our time together for creation of future storytelling materials.
Your tax-deductible donation will help fund this unique gathering of Indigenous leaders, grounding this connective project on two continents.
Please donate to this project and stay tuned for frequent updates on fundraising progress and details of the unfolding Project and working group journey!
Thank you, Jon Young & the Origins Project team
