The COVID pandemic has brought significant change and highlighted some of the complex challenges facing our community. Our most vulnerable populations — children out of school who rely on school lunch programs, low-income families and individuals facing job disruptions — face great barriers to receiving safe and consistent access to meals. For a family of 4, making $48,470 or less qualifies for reduced priced meals and that same size family making $34,060 or less qualifies to receive free meals. At Westgate, over 30% of us qualify for this program, approximately 190 students.
With the holiday season approaching, the Westgate PTA is beginning a Season of Giving, focusing on helping our own community. We will have different iniatives throughout the season, beginning with this Go Fund Me Drive.
In lieu of the annual turkey drive, we have created this virtual fundraising effort to provide monetary support to the Westgate families most in need. We’ve set an initial goal of $2,000 and believe we can surpass this with your help!
We are all facing new and difficult challenges but food and clothing shouldn’t be a concern for anyone, especially our Westgate students. Let’s come together as a community to support our neighbors in need.
