Starflower Experiences is all about getting people to experience nature and reduce their impact on our planet. For those who are pretty stressed right now, spending time in the natural world is a free and effective way to find calmness despite the turbulence around us. Unfortunately, the situation with COVID-19 this spring has meant canceling spring programs and fundraisers. That makes it harder for us to support our core mission. The costs of operating don't disappear just because a program is canceled. This is why we need your help right now.
Perhaps you missed our annual Manor Farm Egg Hunt or our annual Fundraising Auction or spring programs that had to be canceled whether it was Planting Time or a Repair Café. We are trying to move our Earth Ranger trainees ahead online but they almost surely will not be able to finish the final step in their training until we can meet again.
We are busy planting things both at Manor Farm and at our middle school garden in Wyandanch. If we don't have summer programs, we will most likely donate much of the produce. The sunflower maze will happen at Manor Farm this year and you'll be able to come by and enjoy it when they start to bloom in July.
We had started collecting items for our annual auction before everything was shut down. We hope that many of these items will be good to use by late summer. For every $25 you donate, we'll put a ticket in for you to have a chance at one of these items.
Please help us continue to nurture closeness to the earth. And stop by Manor Farm to go for a walk in the woods.
And by the way, as part of the stimulus act, for 2020 even taxpayers who take the standard deduction can take an additional $300 per person in charitable contributions. This is in addition to the standard deduction and reduces their taxable income, and hence tax bill. For married filing jointly each party can take $300 for a total of $600.
