Dear friends of Child Counseling Center and Play Therapy Institute of NM
Thank you for your support of this new nonprofit that is benefitting the children and parents in our community.
Due to the COVID-19, we have stopped seeing our child clients and caregivers at our office. Our experienced child therapists have begun holding sessions with the children and providing support to their caregivers through Telemedicine.
The issues that brought children and their families to seek out our services have not gone away and may escalate with the increased stress put on the families. There is an anticipated increase in families needing our support in the coming weeks. It is our goal to meet this demand.
As a fledgling nonprofit, we need your continued support. Your donation will help us to provide services during this challenging time.
With gratitude from all of us.
Who are we?
The Child Counseling Center and Play Therapy Insitute of New Mexico (CCC/PTI) is a NEW 501(c)(3) that seeks to offer affordable counseling for children, ages 2-12, in Santa Fe, NM. The organization will utilize counselors that are highly trained in the area of children’s mental health and play therapy. Acknowledging the need for parent/guardian support, the organization will soon start offering "Circle of Security", a low-cost (sliding scale) parenting group . With your support, CCC/PTI will be able to minimize the wait time that families experience when trying to find therapists for their children AND provide therapists that have training specific to helping young children and their parents/guardians.
Ever experienced a lack of child therapists in Santa Fe?
In 2018-2019, there were almost 13,000 Pre-K - 8th grade students enrolled in Santa Fe city public and private schools. There are only 6 local Registered Play Therapists, with even fewer practicing full time. Many therapists who see children have full caseloads and long waitlists making it impossible for all children and families in need to receive services.
How will CCC of NM increase the number of Play Therapists in Santa Fe and the surrounding areas?
The Child Counseling Center has founded the Play Therapy Institute (PTI). The PTI offers coursework and support to therapists seeking to gain the qualifications to become Registered Play Therapists. The hope is that the PTI will increase access to play therapy by providing classes and continuing education units locally. The more therapists trained to help children, the more local kids that can be seen and supported.
Where are we and why does it matter?
Located on Maclovia Street, in midtown, CCC/PTI is centrally located, close to schools, and accessible to families. There are already 2 playrooms, equipped with a variety of toys and sandtray tables, ready to support the growth of children. This organization is founded by local play therapists who have recognized the need for more availability and therapists that have been trained to use child-specific techniques.
