Thank you for joining me in supporting this incredibly important cause.
November is Native American Heritage Month, this is also the month when Nisenan Heritage Day typically would happen, but this year it has been extended to include the whole month and many online educational offerings. As we approach "Thanksgiving" it is vital that we acknowledge the ground we stand on, the history of the land we live on, and the Indigenous People of that land. Those of us who are settlers and local to the Bear and Yuba River Watersheds, I invite you to learn, share, and join this month of listening and giving to the Nevada City Rancheria Nisenan. The Nisenan Non-Profit CHIRP does the incredible work of preserving, protecting, and perpetuating the Nisenan Culture as well as numerous advocacy projects. CHIRP has set the goal of raising 30,000 this month, these funds go towards all of the projects that support the Tribe's visibility, their cultural preservation, as well as, the extremely important work of regaining their Federal Recognition.
I have a total goal of 5k for my team, and I would love to have you join my team and match me. However, don't let that amount stop you from giving whatever you have to offer, every dollar does make a difference. You are also encouraged to create your own team to continue spreading the word.
I have been a volunteer for CHIRP over the past 3.5 years and I have deep gratitude for being allowed to participate in this way, and for the ongoing process of coming into right-relationship with my home and the original peoples of this place. I have witnessed first hand the powerful and extremely important work that CHIRP does in support of the Tribe and know these funds will support their mission. I hope you will join me this month in showing your gratitude for this land by supporting the descendants of its original stewards.
