We're leveraging technology to support LGBTQ+ asylum seekers and other LGBTQ+ people in need through this crisis.
At AsylumConnect, we provide the world’s first tech resource platform for those fleeing persecution due to sexual orientation or gender identity. Our COVID-19 response consists of the following:
1. New Alert Messages: We're adding new alert messages directly to our free resource website and mobile app designed to quickly communicate to our thousands of users how verified direct service providers listed are responding to COVID-19 in real-time (e.g. moving to providing services remotely, still open or reduced hours). These new alert messages will be updated by our trained volunteers. Service providers who register for a free service provider user account are also be able to update their own alert message field. Moving forward, we will retain this new alert message functionality on our free technology to quickly respond to future crises and natural disasters impacting services.
2. New Digital COVID-19 Resource Guide: In addition to updating our resource app directly, we have also launched a new specialized Resource Guide on our website for LGBTQ+ asylum seekers and other LGBTQ+ people in need during COVID-19. This growing resource list aggregates up-to-date information on the verified LGBTQ+ affirming and immigrant friendly direct service providers continuing to provide help during this pandemic by state in one free, digital location.
3. Outreach to LGBTQ+ students and youth in need: In addition to LGBTQ+ asylum seekers, our free digital platform of vetted LGBTQ+ affirming service providers can also be used by LGBTQ+ youth in these extraordinary times to connect with critical medical, mental health and social services. For example, LGBTQ+ students with nowhere to go due to early school and dorm closures can use AsylumConnect to connect with a wide range of free verified LGBTQ+ affirming services, including: drop-in centers for LGBTQ youth remaining open, hygiene items, affirming medical care, and trans-friendly mental health hotlines.
We kindly ask that you join us in supporting persecuted LGBTQ+ people in need. Your gift will support our COVID-19 response and help to ensure every LGBTQ+ person in need who could benefit from access to our free digital resource platform during this pandemic knows about AsylumConnect.
