My name is Talia Thorson, and I am running for National American Miss Wisconsin Jr. Teen 2018! My platform is International Childrens Anophthalmia Network. This organization works to inform and encourage families who are affected by the eye disorders anophthalmia (absence of eyes) and microphthalmia (tiny eyes that don't have vision). My brother, Jack (who is also my best friend), was born with microphthalmia, so choosing this charity was a natural choice for me. Almost 800 American babies are born every year with these conditions, and usually, the family is scared, confused, and left wondering what the future of their new baby looks like! When they go online to read about their new baby's condition, they find ican! ican exists to support inform, encourage, and support these families. They have an active website, Facebook page, 1-800 number, and hold conferences, every two years, throughout the U.S. At these conferences, children can meet new friends, who look and live like them. They have free clinics, social events, and updates on the latest research. Next year, I want to go to the ican conference, and work with other children like my brother. I love kids, and can't wait to let them know how awesome they all are! We have been in contact with the President of ican, who is excited to hear that I have chosen their organization for my platform. It is an honor to represent them! PLEASE consider donating to this excellent organization. Together, we can make a big difference in these little lives. THANK YOU!
