Our summer employment program, called Green Team Conservation Corps, allows Maria and a dozen teenage peers to complete meaningful conservation work while partnering with local organizations and nonprofits. Through this experience, Maria will take ownership of improving our community and learn about careers in environmental fields. She will also receive environmental education, develop leadership skills, and gain real-world work experience.
Maria and many of the teens in our program are from economically disadvantaged groups or are homeless; they must work in the summer to cover basic needs or save for school clothing and supplies. Through the Green Team Conservation Corps, we enable Maria to continue her environmental education while earning a viable income. After successful completion of the program, Maria will emerge better equipped for future employment or study in environmental fields as well as for national youth conservation corps programs.
Maria and her dozen peers will work 30 hours per week for 7 weeks between June and August. Groundwork Dallas pays Maria $10/hour and outfits her with work-related gear and equipment. We also provide lunch and transportation to ease the burden on Maria’s parents who may be working or taking care of Maria’s siblings.
$7,500 pays for Maria and her 12 peers, 2 full-time staff members, transportation, and lunch for 1 week. While partnering organizations provide some financial support, Groundwork Dallas pays the remaining balance. Groundwork Dallas also fully covers the cost of weeks in which the Corps works on our organization’s projects.
You can positively impact Maria – and 12 others like her - by supporting 1 week of our Green Team Conservation Corps. Make a donation today because Maria can’t do it without you.
