Dear Friends of GYC,
Thank you for your support of the Greensboro Youth Chorus over the past 32 years. Whether your child participated with us as a singer or you have attended one of our concerts or benefits, we would not be where we are today without you. You know through your experiences with GYC that we seek to instill the love of music and singing together in all youth that we meet. Throughout the years, we have done just that through exceptional musical experiences like singing at Carnegie Hall in New York, performing for Candlelight Christmas at the Biltmore Estate, or hosting children’s choirs from across the Carolinas here in Greensboro for the Piedmont Invitational Children’s Choir Festival. Our singers form life-long friendships and participate and serve in our community in unique ways all while developing personal and group responsibility, independence, discipline, commitment and self-esteem.
This year, the COVID-19 pandemic has brought a unique and unexpected challenge to GYC. Healthcare experts and research have deemed group singing as a high-risk activity. GYC will, therefore, not hold in-person rehearsals or performances in the 2020-21 season. Although COVID-19 has impacted youth organizations around the world, many receive funding from government programs and charitable foundations. Conversely, GYC is 100% funded by tuition. By not being able to offer in-person programming, this means GYC will be in a very precarious financial position. In fact, GYC, most likely, will not weather this storm without your help.
We need the support of our community now more than ever. Will you consider helping GYC?
