3-Legged Dog: Support Persistence of Vision and Challenging New Work
"There is no company that has been as persistent as 3LD. It's a cat that we thought had 9 lives . . . and that cat has like 38 lives so far."
Jim Findlay

Many of you will know that we were forced out of our home of 17 years last January---the 93rd performing arts group to have been forced out of their space since 2010 in Manhattan alone,
We have successfully relocated to 33 Flatbush Avenue around the corner from BAM, the new NYU ITP facility and many other arts organizations. We have a 3700 sq ft flexible studio space in an appropriately eccentric building which has housed an eclectic community of artists, architects and scientists for the last 25 years.
Among other benefits this move reduced our core operating expenses by 91%. So those of you who know us well can be assured that any donation you make will NOT be going to our former landlord the MTA or Con Edison.
Instead your donation will go directly to fund new works and to pay artists working on our current projects.
3-LEGGED DOG UPDATE: NEW WORKS, NEW SPACE, NEW MODEL, NEW PARTNERS
3LD has had a busy and challenging year. We started the year moving out of 80 Greenwich Street space while we were taking our 3LD Immersive Interactive Platform to the Sundance Film Festival with works by Victor Morales, Peter Burr and Matt Romein.
We moved into our new studio and immediately began workshopping our collaboration with Professor Carol Dysinger, One Woman War.
Then we headed to the B3 Biennial in Frankfurt for the European Premier of the Immersive Interactive Platform where Victor Morales took home the Art + B3 BEN Award for Best Immersive and Time Based Art!
As we were mounting this work we began our collaboration with the new Carson Center for Emerging Media Arts where we will install a version of the 3LD Immersive Platform in their atrium as we begin work on our next major production Not-Knowing in collaboration with Chuck Mee, the Carson Center and the Nebraska Repertory Theater.
Surfing reality, we have adapted again under difficult circumstances to keep working at the bleeding edge of ambitious art, innovative design, and as we have since 1994 to prosecute our mission "to explore the new narrative possibilities created by digital technology."
We are adapting away from our traditional facility based operation toward a more flexible and international "virtual" studio model. Many of our best works of the last decade have been developed by creative teams working digitally across two or three continents.
We are in the process of formalizing our existing partnerships with like-minded studios in London, Berlin, Shanghai, Beijing, New York and LA to ensure our work continues. This is really just another example of our desire to create descriptive rather than a prescriptive responses to a very difficult arts funding environment driven largely by a corporatist myth that everything should be a “business."
WHY WE DO WHAT WE DO AND WHY WE DO IT THIS WAY
We have always believed strongly that some things need to be done whether they make money or not and that artistic experimentation and technological innovation in the services of human expression, human communication and human rights are some of of those things.
Your help will balance our capacity to earn money through our art, stabilize our critical cash flow and allow us to be more aggressive in creating new work and in building our new creative non profit reality by allowing us to allocate money to pure creative work.
Over the last 13 years we have helped 9,100 artists produce 147 ambitious adventurous new works in New York City and our work has been seen by millions of people worldwide. One video from a commissioned design in China was actually viewed by 1.6 billion people.
Today, our focus is on continuing to create and produce new original works in New York and around the world. Your support for 3-Legged Dog is tax deductible and provides us with the foundation we need to keep our mission growing.
