Established in 2020, Super Bloom is a women’s professional ultimate Frisbee team in San Diego, CA. Our mission is to grow and support the San Diego ultimate community with equity in mind by providing playing opportunities, high-level competition, and space to foster community partnerships.
Before the pandemic hit, we had planned on carrying out our mission through hosting in-person community events, like professional ultimate games! But like so many other organizations around the country and beyond, we've pivoted our strategy and are beginning to focus our efforts on supporting the greater San Diego community—outside of ultimate.
In the wake of George Floyd's murder and the new wave of awareness of systemic racism in the US (which has plagued our country since its founding), we feel that it's our responsibility to mobilize the San Diego ultimate community to support Black and brown San Diegans who are struggling during these trying times.
That’s why we’re leading this fundraising initiative to raise money for three local organizations—selected by Super Bloom players, committee members, and Board members— that are providing essential goods, resources, and/or services to Black and brown San Diegans in need:
Our goal is to rally local pickup, league, and club players across San Diego, encouraging them to take a stand against racial injustice and donate to our cause. For club players, specifically, we are inviting them to donate part or all of what they would have spent on the 2020 club season.
Super Bloom will be pledging $1000 to this fundraising effort, and an additional $1000 toward internal equity initiatives, including community training, coaching, and/or workshops that will take place in 2021.
Join us in condemning racial injustice, police brutality, and systematic oppression. Donate and share!
