Even in the best of circumstances, the road to recovery from drug and alcohol addiction is paved with challenges and obstacles. Now as we grapple with the effects of the COVID-19 crisis, the concern for those battling addiction has grown tremendously.
The COVID-19 crisis has forced self-isolation and distancing, strained the availability of healthcare and treatment services and sent unemployment rates skyrocketing. Taken together, the absence of critical lifelines – in-person counseling, presence of social supports, and a structured lifestyle - leave men battling addiction at a greater risk of relapse or worse.
As we approach the cold winter months and the holiday season, rates of drug and alcohol abuse increase dramatically. Family stress, financial concerns, and feelings of loneliness are all possible reasons that individuals might turn to alcohol and drugs to find relief.
Already at increased risk infection to COVID-19, we must do everything we can to be a lifeline for men battling addiction. At Project Habit and the Summit County Recovery Center, we are leading a community of supporters to help men on their path to recovery.
Our holiday fundraising drive will help us raise funds to complete construction and renovation projects at our eight-bed facility in Northeast Ohio. Once complete, we will be able to provide safe and stable housing, support group services and other resources to men battling addiction.
We hope you will #BePartOfTheVillage and help us make this holiday season one that serves as a new beginning for these men and their families.
