Summer is one of the biggest times of need for many Charlotte nonprofits. So for the third time, I am excited to support SHARE Charlotte's SummerSHARE campaign by raising $400 for Community Culinary School of Charlotte!
Community Culinary School of Charlotte is a local nonprofit that provides workforce development training and job placement assistance in the food service industry for adults in our community who face barriers gaining and retaining long-term, successful employment. Their program provides systemic solutions to achieve social and economic objectives by addressing one of the root causes of cyclical poverty: employment. CCSC focuses on their students' potential much more than their past situations; they specialize in equipping adults with histories of incarceration, addiction, homelessness, and trauma, with the hands-on training and counseling support they need to begin a culinary career. For most students, CCSC is the last chance for a second chance.
CCSC graduates work across Charlotte’s thriving culinary industry, including: top restaurants, large hotels, corporate cafeterias, hospitals, schools, churches and universities.
I was drawn to CCSC and its mission because as an Assistant Public Defender in Mecklenburg County, I work with clients who are dealing with issues like addiction, homelessness, trauma, poverty, and unemployment on a daily basis. I am thrilled to support CCSC because their students come from the same population and communities that my clients do. (In fact, some of my clients have been CCSC students!) I am hoping to raise $400 for CCSC to purchase chef uniforms for their students.
This campaign supports SHARE Charlotte’s SummerSHARE campaign. Summer is the biggest time of need for many local nonprofits and a time when most people are not thinking about giving back. SHARE Charlotte’s fourth annual SummerSHARE (July 16-22), presented by Bank of America, rallies the community to #ShopforGOOD by encouraging donations of tangible items that nonprofits need the most this summer. You can find these items on our nonprofit partners’ Give Shop® Wish Lists and, in just a few clicks, easily purchase them and they will be shipped to our nonprofit partners’ doorsteps! Shopping for GOOD helps nonprofits continue to do GOOD in our community.
