As the school year is wrapping up, Sunnybrook residents are preparing their plans for the summer. While some residents will be working on or off campus jobs, others will be attending classes at the local high school or community college. We are asking for support from our community to help cover the expenses of summer school for two of our female residents, and we are needing to raise these funds by June 1st. Both girls will be taking two classes each, which amounts to $760 per student and $1,520 total.
Youth in foster care are more likely to change schools during the school year, be in special education classes and fail to receive passing grades than their population counterparts. Changing schools can be extremely challenging for young people in foster care. Socially acclimating to new people and adjusting to a new district’s curriculum can greatly impact their performance in school, all while living with varying effects of trauma.
Sunnybrook seeks to address these challenges through counseling, matching residents with a qualified tutor, and helping secure additional classes when needed.
Will you consider giving to our summer school fund so that two of our residents can get caught up on needed classes? Sunnybrook is grateful to our community who continually shows love and compassion to our ministry and residents. Any amount is appreciated. Thank you!
