The Mariposa County library system is faced with severe budget constraints, and we are asking our county communities for support with the first of a series of fundraising campaigns. Without extra support, many of the branch libraries may be closed altogether, and the main library will have very limited hours.
The Mariposa County Friends of the Library feels strongly that in times of crisis for our community and our country, an informed public is critical. From being able to find out what a virus is, to researching details of American history, to cross checking political claims -- reliable knowledge, such as cannot be found in any better place than our local library, is crucial for navigating the challenges we all face going forward.
This is not to leave out so many of the other important functions modern libraries provide such as access to computers and the internet for people who don't otherwise have that, true necessities in our age.
This first "summer" campaign has set an ambitious goal of $50,000, which we feel is a reasonable target given the supportive and generous nature of our community.
We see this as more than charity, but as a voluntary investment in the long term health and well being our communities. We feel it it is one other way to be #MariposaStrong.
Thanks to all for you support in the past and in the future, large and small!
