Sullivan community members want to stand in solidarity with our families - many of whom are undocumented, recently unemployed, and essential workers. We know that many of our students' families are struggling -- especially the undocumented families who are not eligible for Federal emergency financial assistance. We are seeking donations to help support students and families during the COVID-19 pandemic.
We call on State and local leaders to establish funds to support these members of our community, and as we await their action we are are passing along some of the COVID-19 stimulus funds we have received to create an emergency assistance fund. We will give $250 each in cash assistance to as many families as we can. Our initial goal is to raise $10,000 to support 40 families who have students attending Sullivan High School and are in need of financial assistance due to the impact of COVID-19. This may be because they are unemployed due to COVID-19, cannot receive Federal aid, and/or have lost family members to COVID-19. We are working with Northside Community Resources a 65+ yr old local 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization to securely process and distribute these funds to selected families.
If you are able, please contribute generously to provide some relief to families who are struggling during this crisis and may be excluded from much-needed government aid. Your tax-deductible donation will go a long way to help these families buy food, medicine or help with other vital needs.
This solidarity fund is in no way affiliated with Sullivan High School or CPS. This is an effort put forth by community members for our community.
