I am so sad to be missing this amazing night, but will be there in spirit!
Since moving to Portland, the Southern Maine Worker's Center has become a political home and dear community to me. Ever since I wandered into a Work with Dignity committee meeting in June of 2016, I've been amazed and inspired over and over again by the dedication and gumption of this motley crew of folks. When it feels like nothing is going right at a national level, I feel empowerment from projects like the weekly Legal Clinic and 24/7 Hotline for workers who have questions/concerns about their rights on the job, and hope from our bigger campaigns like the push for Earned Paid Sick Leave (now in Portland, and next, Maine)!
I never used to buy into that Margaret Mead quote, "Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed, citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has." But SMWC keeps teaching me how very true it is.
Please support this fundraiser in whatever way you can! As a member of the Fundraising Committee, it's been amazing to see how far just a few bucks from so many folks can go. We do so much of our work through volunteer hours, but the funds to sustain organizer positions and other basic program needs are invaluable!
