Chicago Marathon 2019
IMERMAN Angels matches cancer patients with mentors of the same age, gender, and most importantly who have faced the same type of cancer. By providing mentor angels to those fighting cancer Imerman Angels has given people hope that the fight is worth fighting. The service is absolutely free to anyone touched by any type of cancer, at any cancer stage, at any age, anywhere in the world.
My Goal: On Sunday, October 13th, I'll be running the Chicago 2019 Marathon for Team Imerman Angel's. This is my second race for imerman angels and their cause is absolutely inspiring. My goal is to raise $1,250.
Let's break it down - for every $350 I raise, it will allow a cancer fighter or caregiver to be matched with a mentor angel. That's over 3 people who will be impacted with your help!
Please consider donating to their cause and supporting me along my way to another 26.2 miles for Team Imerman Angels.
My background: It seems that everyone knows someone who has, or had cancer. My mom had cancer a few times (4..... but who's counting anyway), and each time, I have been there to support her through it.
To say the least, my mom beat cancer with beauty and grace. She had her bad days, however, she never let my sister and I see her struggle. I never saw her breakdown when it came to losing her hair, or coming home sick from chemotherapy and radiation treatments. My mom embraced her current situation and made the best of it.
She was lucky enough to have a lot of support from friends and family. However, when she was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1999 she was the first of many of her friends who would also eventually be diagnosed. She read articles, listened to her doctor, and did research, however, nothing could prepare her for what she was about to go through. If Imerman Angels was around when my mom was diagnosed, I know she could have benefitted from speaking to someone with a similar diagnosis. They would have been able to guide her through potential expectations and aleviate a lot of stress.
Why I’m Running: At a time in someone’s life when they may feel alone in their experience, Imerman Angels is there to support and help the Cancer Fighter or caregiver relate and hear the experiences of someone who went through a similar situation. To be specific, Imerman Angels will match people of the same age, gender, and diagnosis to allow the Cancer fighter to see what someone, just like them, went through. These one-on-one relationships will give a cancer fighter or caregiver the chance to ask personal questions and get support from someone who has been there before. These connections can lend support and empathy and help cancer fighters and caregivers navigate the system, determine their options and create their own support systems.
I run - so no one will have to face cancer alone.
I hope you will help me support Team Imerman Angels!
