Styled by a Child is an innovative and engaging fundraiser for the North Dakota Women’s Network. For the week of October 15-19, adults hand over all styling decisions to a young person in their life. The adult will wear these styles EVERYWHERE for that day.
Everyone can watch the fashion unfold online at styledbyachild.org as well as through participants’ own social media outlets. Photos are posted throughout the week. Teams set a fundraising goals and ask friends and family to donate for the five days of styling.
Styled by a Child is the brainchild of Katie Aitchison, a member of the North Dakota Women’s Network, and Renee Stromme, founder of the North Dakota Women’s Network. In June 2015 each mother let their 5-year-old daughters style them, head to toe, for one week. The process was fun, engaging and inspired them to turn it into an event for others to join-in on the fun and raise funds for a community good.
The week will end with a fashion Show, Friday, October 19, at the Baymont in Mandan. Attendees will see the best styles from the week. Tickets are $10 for adults and free for 17 and younger.
Funds raised will be used for a variety of NDWN programs including:
- Ready to Run, a bi-partisan program for women who want to run for office, seek higher office, work on a campaign, get appointed to office, or learn more about the political system
- WERise: Women Empowered, helps participants learn how to advocate for policies that enhance women’s lives and how to participate in the lawmaking process. It provides opportunities to meet with lawmakers and network with other citizen advocates
- Renee Stromme Empowered Leaders Scholarship, named in honor of North Dakota Women's Network Founder, is an annual $1000 scholarship given to one currently enrolled college student in North Dakota. The first scholarship wll be awarded in 2019.
