In the United States, the gap between a high performing and a low performing student is significant. Oftentimes, the likelihood of a student's success mainly depends on if you were born in the right family.
To name a few of the challenges, lower income and minority students on average have: lower school funding, more severe disciplinary punishments, lower graduation rates, lower college admittance, and higher rates of drop outs. Simply put, lower income and minority students are more at risk to be vulnerable students. Without equal opportunity to high-quality education, many vulnerable students will simply be abandoned by our current education system.
We believe that quality education is a right, not a privilege. The Knowledge Exchange Inc. is a nonprofit, 501(c)(3) organization with the mission of promoting educational equality by providing affordable, quality tutoring and workshops to anyone in need.
Our primary focus is to provide for the educational needs of K-12 students: All of us at TKE Inc. recognizes the unprecedented strain that COVID-19 is inflicting towards our school system. Schools, at this time of need, are left with little to no guidance from the Department of Education and the state; where the only guidelines seem more like political talking points along the lines of: let the teachers and their principals figure it out. Additionally, in this era of divisive politics and a deadlocked Congress, schools have received little to no additional funding, but at the same time are expected to completely transition from a physical to a virtual or hybrid setting; all of this on top of a pandemic remaining strong in infection rate.
The result? Schools are under extreme stress. Lesson plans and class schedules are in constant flux, and there is a severe shortage of laptops for students. As usual, the less fortunate among us are the ones that are bearing the brunt of this shortage; too often students are left with an economic handicap under no fault of their own: they simply were unfortunate enough to be living in the wrong school district.
We at TKE Inc. find this to be a fundamental travesty of equality, and we are determined to help in any way we can.
What we are doing
We will be raising funds up to January 26th, 2021 towards providing a laptop /tablet/internet access to students that either:
1) does not have access to a laptop /tablet and/or internet access
2) is in dire need of an upgrade of what they already have.
Our focus will be towards students in need from our community of Fredericksburg, Virginia and the surrounding school districts as well.
TKE Inc. always operates on 100% transparency. Receipts/proof of purchase will be provided to anyone inquiring at firstname.lastname@example.org
In addition, we will be providing updates along with pictures + a summary on our website at:
and also at our facebook page at:
If we meet our target fundraising goal, we will be able to provide a laptop /or tablet to about 25 students in need! That is almost a full classroom for the standard public school!
