“Wow! This was an incredible experience. Even though we work in an environment with multiple project opportunities, this one is unique in so many ways. To see students working collaboratively throughout the entire build process was amazing. They learned so much math and science as they had to troubleshoot issues leading up to race day. During the actual race, I loved watching how they were able to find solutions to get the car back onto the track. Most importantly, they had a blast! My kids are already talking about what they would do differently to modify the body next time to make it more aerodynamic. Needless to say, we are in for next year!” - Sue Williamson, STEM School
After receiving a box of parts and instructions, teams of students over the course of the school year will design, build and race electric power race cars. Students are assigned roles ranging from project manager, parts manager, marketing and public relations and drivers. They learn about how renewable energy can be used to charge their batteries and are encouraged to use recycled materials on the body of the car!
Students as young as age 9 can participate in the program. We currently have 24 schools on the waiting list and right now due to the generosity of the Lyndhurst Foundation, donations will be matched to fund up to 20 additional cars for local schools!
Kits can be reused year after year, allowing hundreds of students to participate with minimal investment! Any size donation can help make this a reality for students in Chattanooga.
