My name is Naomi and on November 9th, 2019 I will be running the Revel Big Bear Half-Marathon (https://www.runrevel.com/rbb) to bring awareness to the need for shelter of families and single women experiencing homelessness, and to raise funds for The Salvation Army of San Bernardino County's Hospitality House. I am blessed to be the Program Manager for this wonderful program, so this venture is particularly near and dear to my heart. Please seriously consider donating to this cause, or share this post along with the hashtag #Strides4Shelter with those who may possibly want to donate.
The goal of The Hospitality House is to meet the needs of the homeless population by addressing the myriad of reasons why people become homeless and assisting them in developing a higher quality of life through independence with the ultimate result being resolution of homelessness.
The Salvation Army Hospitality House provides emergency shelter and transitional housing for homeless single adult females, families with children, single parents with children up to 18 years of age and pregnant women. Families and individuals are provided with a safe, clean place to rest to begin the process of securing permanent housing and stability through supportive services and intensive case management.
The San Bernardino County 2019 Homeless County and Survey2019 Point-in-Time Homeless Count provides data that the homelessness crisis in San Bernardino is increasing, with homelessness reaching 2,607 individuals, a 23% increase from 2018. The numbers of adults on the street age 55 and older increased 71 percent from 246 people in 2018 to 422 people in 2019. Almost 19% of the 1,873 adults on the street counted this year became homeless for the first time in the last year. Nearly a quarter of adults living on the streets in the county – 450 – are unaccompanied women. Youth and those with critical health conditions are some of the most vulnerable of the homeless population. Valuable programming that offers comprehensive wrap-around and supportive services for the homeless are fundamental in addressing the needs for homeless individuals. The Salvation Army San Bernardino Hospitality House serves this vulnerable population within San Bernardino County.
Your donation to Strides 4 Shelter Campaign will directly support the Hospitality House Program in reaching its goal of meeting the needs of families and single women experiencing homelessness within San Bernardino County.
