Having a job matters.
Unfortunately, individuals experiencing homelessness face tremendous obstacles in finding and maintaining viable employment opportunities. We know this because we have actually been there ourselves.
We are a group of homeless individuals determined to get back on our feet. We started as a small gathering at a park in Lancaster, California. One day we discussed possible solutions to overcome homelessness, and we quickly recognized the importance of stable employment. Knowing that we would not be competitive in the job market as we were, we decided to build our own business to hire ourselves and our friends on the street. And for our first venture, we chose coffee.
We operated pop-up coffee shops since Jan 2019 and now we are building Casters Coffee Roasters to hire more homeless people.
Casters Coffee Roasters is a wholesale roasting business that provides jobs for the homeless. At the business, homeless people will be (1) hired and gain job training. (2) They will be connected with additional supportive services they may need to succeed in the workplace. (3) Then they will receive assistance to transition to long-term employment.
As a seed funding for our social enterprise, we need to raise $76,000.
$ 40,000 (Roaster and accessories)
$ 7,200 (Espresso Machine)
$ 7,800 (Other machines and fixtures)
$ 15,000 (Construction and installation)
$ 4,000 (Green beans and packages)
$ 500 (POS System)
$ 1,000 (Permits and License)
To make this goal a reality, we are actively recruiting donors who wish to be a part of this truly life-changing mission. In our society, employment is the foundation of a healthy mind and life. It provides us with more than just an income. It provides us with dignity and a sense of purpose – things we believe every human being deserves.
