I grew up poor. But no matter how tight things got, I always had three things I could count on: loving parents, a safe place to sleep, and the knowledge that if I worked hard I could make it because I lived in a country of boundless opportunity and people willing to help me. So it hits me very hard when I see children that have none of those things. Street Child is a UK based charity that works to help them. On May 23, I will be running a marathon in Sierra Leone, West Africa to benefit Street Child. It's an event with great significance for me. I served in Sierra Leone in Peace Corps in the seventies, before it was racked by civil war, Ebola and mudslides and Leonardo DiCaprio made a movie about it. (And this will be my comeback race after my little medical adventure last year.)
If this is a cause that resonates with you and if you can, I'd appreciate your support.
