Columbine High School, Sandy Hook Elementary, Marjory Stoneman Douglas High, Sante Fe High, Saugus High. For the last 20 years our students, teachers and parents have lived with the reality of school shootings. While we have debated how to prevent these nightmares, school shootings have continued to increase. In fact, the numbers the past two years have been more than twice those of previous years. The goal of the nationwide Stop-The-Bleed movement is to increase the survivability of shooting and mass causality events by providing the training and tools to bystanders on the scene so that they can give immediate aid until the professional responders arrive.
To this end, the Rotary Club of Grafton has purchased three 8-pack Bleeding Control Stations, a down payment towards our goal of a minimum of 12 stations - two or three units to be installed in each of the five schools in our county. The local school board has committed to purchasing an additiona six stations. Each of these Bleeding Control Stations consists of a wall-mounted 18"x16"x10" clear case containing 8 individual bleeding control kits. Each individual kit contains a tourniquet, gauze, dressings, trauma scissors, etc. - all the things needed to slow the loss of blood until professional medical help can arrive. The teachers and staff of the schools will be trained on how to use these kits in the event of an emergency.
We still need to purchase at least three more Bleeding Control Stations at a cost of $833 each and a dozen individual kits at $85 to reach our goal for the protection of our children. You can be a part of this project by making a tax-deductible contribution to The Education Endowment of the Rotary Club of Grafton, Inc., a 501(c)3 charitable organization. We all pray that these Bleeding Control Stations will never be needed, but should a shooting or a mass causality event occur in one of our schools, the presence of these tools will increase the odds of no lives being lost. PLEASE DONATE NOW.
