Time is critical. We cannot afford waiting!
In 2 short months, the U.S. went from being a coronavirus-free country to having over 350,000 confirmed cases and over 10,000 deaths. This toll is rising exponentially every day. Though hospitals are working as fast as possible to get more critically needed face masks through their normal supply chain, there have been dramatic delays in manufacturing ramp up and payment exchange. As a result, medical workers across the country are having to reuse masks and resort to DIY solutions while awaiting for additional PPE to arrive.
Many hospitals and healthcare workers are in urgent need of PPE donations. The next two weeks are extremely critical. WE CANNOT AFFORD WAITING. WE HAVE TO TAKE ACTION NOW. Our volunteers have established close relationships with volunteers in China who have access to PPE suppliers and are dedicated to help with the procurement and logistics. By utilizing private donations, we can secure readily available masks and other PPEs from manufacturers in China and get them to hospitals in need quickly.
We have taken quick action on donating 4 powered air purifying respirators kits (PAPR), 20 boxes of face shields and 500 goggles to Stanford Health Care and Stanford University on March 18th. Another order of 15,000 N95 and surgical masks are expected to arrive by March 29th. Of those, 13,000 will be going to hospitals that we have close contact with. The remaining 2000 of these items will be donated to senior homes, who are also in urgent need of face masks. We will provide updates when these items are delivered.
Due to extreme urgency and merchandise availability, our volunteers have made purchases out of their own pocket, and we are hoping to fundraise as quickly as possible to scale up purchasing ability.
How will your donation be used?
All donations will be used towards purchasing necessary PPEs (personal protective equipment), particularly face masks and face shields. Majority of the PPEs will be sent to frontline healthcare workers. They are fighting to protect all of us, and let’s give our support to protect them! In addition, we will also send our support and supplies to the senior communities and their care providers.
Who are we?
We are a group of Stanford students and Googlers, volunteering to support hospitals and senior communities in the Greater San Francisco Bay Area and NYC amid the Coronavirus outbreak. We are working closely with LEAP (Lifescience, Entrepreneurship and Plus) Initiative, which is a Bay-area based 501(c)(3) organization. As of March 5th, LEAP has successfully fund-raised $200K and donated over 117,000 protective coveralls, safety goggles, face shields, and PAPR kits etc, to 40+ hospitals in Hubei province, China, and more information can be found here for previously fundraising effort.
Regular updates will be posted on the progress of our purchase orders on this fundraising page until all of our orders have been delivered.
