This will be my 5th Grandma's Half Marathon and this year I'm running for a kick A$$ charity!
Still Kickin is an amazing nonprofit organization that helps everyday people going through something hard in life. They raise money from their onlineT-shirt sales and choose one lucky person each month. They tell their story and give them all the donations from the shirt sales. How cool is that!? Read below about their cause, go to their site, buy some shirts, help change a life, and please click "donate" to support my running cause. My goal is to raise at least $500 by May 1st :)
Most Americans don’t have $500 to cover an unexpected emergency, and unexpected emergencies always cost more than $500. They can destroy you financially and crush you spiritually.
That's where Still Kickin comes in. They're a nonprofit organization founded by Nora McInerny and Lindsay Wenner that helps awesome people going through awful things. Inspired by Minneapolis designer (and all-around awesome dude) Aaron Purmort’s life, death and favorite t-shirt, they give a no-strings-attached financial grant to a new "Still Kickin Hero" each month.
Some of their recent Heroes include:
Marissa Xicotencatl, a young woman who, after a debilitating tumor returned for a fourth time, made the difficult decision to amputate her leg.
Andi Emmett, a gun violence survivor who became the sole financial provider for her family after her stepfather attempted to kill her.
Justin Drapinski, a wheelchair hockey league superstar with a neurodegenerative disease fighting for his right to potentially life-saving medical treatment.
They've been able to increase the amount of money they give each new Hero because of people like us. The money I raise will help them keep this organization of theirs running and help them continue to #HelpAHumanOut.
