Our story begins when our daughter, Stevie, graduated from High School. Stevie had been in school from the time she was 3 until 21. During this time, she had friends, a routine and a purpose. Once she graduated that stopped overnight. As she was transitioning out of the public school system, the basic information we received as far as what needed to be done or what do we do now was that she would need to be “monitored” or live in a group home. However, we soon found there was very little available for people on the autism spectrum to live because of behavioral and sensory issues. In fact, Stevie was denied two places!
If this is our situation, we know that there are countless other families who share this concern of what will happen to my child/loved one when we no longer can care for them because of our careers, age, physical inability to do so or death.
Stevie’s Adult Autistic Community will be an integrated community specifically for caring and housing our autistic adults.
Thank you for your generous giving in making this vision a reality!!
