We are running in the 2019 Detroit Marathon on October 20th in memory of Ella Blonsky, who bravely fought Synovial Sarcoma cancer for more than 2 years before passing away in November, 2018 at the age of 13. Ella attended the same school district as our own kids, and we followed her arduous journey along with many in the community, thanks to the frequent updates from her mother, Lindsay.
Due to the rarity of Synovial Sarcoma, Ella had to make numerous trips to Cincinnati Children’s Hospital for specialized treatment. She received many different treatments which helped for periods of time and Ella continued to live her life to the fullest. Ella excelled in school, was a talented artist, and was extremely charismatic and funny. Throughout the entire battle, Ella was incredibly positive and promised her friends and family that everything was going to be ok.
If there is one attribute that defined Ella, it was her beautiful smile that lit up every room and produced an instant connection to all of us who followed her progress. The memory of Ella, her intoxicating smile, and the smiles of others that Ella touched live on at https://www.instagram.com/smiles_for_ella/.
Research funding is critical to help find treatments and cures as soon as possible. All contributions will be used to further Pediatric Cancer Research at C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital at The University of Michigan.
We know that the training and race will be grueling. When we feel like stopping, we will keep Ella's courageous fight and and her sweet smile in our thoughts...and we will keep on going knowing that we and our supporters are making a difference.
Thank you so much for your support!
