About Sophie
Sophie is a 6.5-year-old dachshund who has been down on her luck. This was actually her second time being “rescued.” Originally, Sophie was saved from a hoarding situation and lived for several years with her savior. Unfortunately, her mama did not have the resources to care for Sophie the way she wanted to be able to. With nothing but love for her girl, she asked for help and Thank Dog Rescue gladly stepped in! Sophie has IVDD, which affects 25% of doxies. She also had a very large herniated disc, which was causing severe compression on her spine. This condition caused her hind legs to be paralyzed, but nobody mentioned that to Sophie! When she came into rescue, Sophie was on crate rest while we evaluated her condition and treatment plan. Despite the hind leg paralysis, Sophie had control of her bladder and bowels and could wag her tail, which our doctors felt gave her good odds for walking again if she had surgery. Despite the high cost of care, Thank Dog Rescue gladly got this girl the surgery she needs, which was completed on January 17. The doctor successfully removed most of the herniated disc, which should lessen the pain she feels and we *hope* will allow her to regain movement of her hind legs with physical therapy.
How you can help Sophie!
Sophie is a true love with the fighter spirit that makes us love dogs. Won't you please join us at Steps for Sophie on April 22, or sponsor someone who is joining us, to help cover the high expense of Sophie's care? All donations come directly to Thank Dog Rescue to be applied to Sophie's care. Sophie thanks you, and so do we!
About Thank Dog Rescue
Thank Dog Rescue is an IRS approved 501(c)(3) charitable organization dedicated to finding loving homes for shelter, homeless and abandoned dogs of ALL breeds. We are NOT a shelter, but a small group of volunteers who foster dogs in our homes where they are loved as our own, until a suitable permanent home is found. Here, they are allowed to decompress from their former lives, socialized and exposed to all kinds of new experiences, and trained in basic commands in preparation for a smooth transition to their forever homes.
