In South Sudan, young girls often marry before the age of 13 to older men, ruining any chance for the girls to improve their lives. Some girls become so distraught and hopeless that they take their own lives.
My name is Rick Ralston and this situation breaks my heart, especially since I raised three wonderful daughters whom I love with all my heart. Several years ago, I visited South Sudan with SEA Partners, a nonprofit focused on coming alongside the South Sudanese to improve their economy through education and community development. While on this trip, I recognized the desperate situation of the young girls as they are forced to marry young. Now, I have a passion to eliminate this practice of forced child marriage and provide education and empowerment for young girls in South Sudan.
By running in the Eugene Marathon, I hope to raise $4000 to save these girls from forced early marriage. Please join me in giving to this worthy cause!
