I'm honored to have the opportunity to run with the Brigham and Women's Hospital Stepping Strong team for the 2018 Boston Marathon on April 16, 2018 - my first Boston Marathon and my first marathon. The team was initiated by the Reny family after their daughter, Gillian, was one of 39 people who were critically injured at the finish line of the Boston Marathon bombings in 2013 and immediately rushed to treatment at BWH. All donations will be directly devoted to The Gillian Reny Stepping Strong Center for Trauma Innovation, which is dedicated to trauma research and care for the benefit of civilians and military personnel worldwide who have suffered from the devastation of traumatic injuries and events. To date, the center has raised more than $12 million - I'm hoping you'll join me in raising that number.
Personally, I will be running this marathon in honor of both of my grandfathers, Bruce R. Dunbar and Alvin R. Blumberg, who passed away from cancer. I am motivated to run to benefit BWH specifically because my family owes many years of happiness and memories to the hospital. In 1992, Al received the gift of a heart transplant at BWH, which remained strong for 21 years, and when cancer took over in 2013, he recevied his cancer and end of life treatment at BWH. The doctors, nurses, and medical professionals who treated my grandfather showed incredible compassion and commitment to my family while he was in their care. I hope that through this commitment I am able to give back to BWH, who has given my family so much, and ensure that BWH has the resources to treat other families with the same quality of care.
I am humbled to join, contribute, educate, and learn through this experience with the BWH team. Please join me in donating however much you are able to reach my goal of $9,000, and hopefully more - every donation helps. If you or your loved ones have ever been affected by traumatic injuries or events, or cancer, feel free to leave a note along with your donation and I will make sure to keep them in my thoughts while training during the upcoming months and on race day. Through the BWH Stepping Strong Marathon Team, I know our impact will change lives.
Through CrowdRise, all donations to my campaign go directly to BWH and are therefore tax deductible charitable donations. In addition, many companies match gifts - it's a simple process and I would encourage you to ask whether your company does!
