Thank you very much for taking the time to visit our fundraising page. As many of you know, Tina is on a quest to run all six world major marathons (Boston, Chicago, New York, Berlin, Tokyo, London) and will be running her fourth in Berlin a just a few weeks, convincing/dragging Nikki along for the ride to conquer her second. While we were able to get into the marathon through their lottery system, we'd like to use this opportunity to raise funds to help others- specifically amputees- have the same opportunity we are so fortunate to have been given.
Our good friend, Brandon Korona, is our inspiration for this. Five years after having his leg severly damaged by an IED in Afghanistan, Brandon made the voluntary decision to amputate his lower left leg in hopes of living the active (and pain free) life he was used to. Brandon turned to Brigham and Women's Faulkner Hospital which put him in touch with Dr. Carty and the Gillian Reny Stepping Strong Foundation, founded after the Boston Marathon bombing, where he would be the second recipient of the experimental Ewing amputation meant to revolutionize and reinvent the science of amputations. The goal is to ultimately connect Brandon's leg to a new series of smart prosthetics currently being developed at MIT.
The funds raised through this campaign will go towards the Gillian Reny Stepping Strong Center for Trauma Innovation to help fund the research and development that has helped those whom find themselves in a similar situation as Brandon.
Brandon now has a goal to run the 2020 Boston Marathon, and we intend to be right beside him passing along encouragement, and any knowledge we've learned through our running careers to ensure it's a success.
