As you know, I am always up for a physical challenge! Back in July, I burned 4,500 calories when I hiked Mt. Whitney, but this time I will be doing it while trying to juggle work, kids, school and life, in general!
I am participating in this calorie burn challenge to raise funds for the nonprofit I work for whose mission is to support people affected by an illness you most likely have never heard of, pheochromocytoma or pheo. Pheo is a rare neuroendocrine tumor that is often hereditary and most patients live for years with debilitating symptoms before receiving a diagnosis. If left untreated, the illness can become metastatic.
As most of you probably know, Liv has a rare disease herself. After neurosurgery at the age of two and a year of chemo at five, she is, thankfully, clean of Langerhans cells histiocytosis since. This experience has allowed me to understand the challenges associated with a rare disease, like pheo.
P.S. This is a picture of Liv at her Livapalooza party when we celebrated her finishing chemo!
Thanks for donating!
