It's that time of the year again where I try to pull on your heart strings and ask you to participate in a cause so dear to my heart. Many of you have been on this journey with me since I hosted my first fundraiser almost 10 years ago. If you're just joining in on the fight, this is why I wear teal; I wear teal for my Grandma. She was only 57 when she lost her fight to this terrible disease. Why was she so young and not able to be saved? Because Ovarian Cancer is incredibly hard to diagnose. The symptoms are non-specific and often misdiagnosed as something else. I always say that I couldn't save my Grandma, but maybe I can help save someone elses.
This year has even more meaning. Shannon and I welcomed a sweet little girl in April. We decided to name her Willa Kay in memory of my amazing Grandma, Wilma Kay. It's heartbreaking to me that Willa will never meet her Great Grandma because of Ovarian Cancer. All we can do is keep her memory alive and make Willa's first year as a teal warrior a memorable one!
Please consider donating to the cause or participating in the Strides for Hope 5k on September 16th. That's the day before my birthday and I can't think of a better way to celebrate!
