In Louisiana and Mississippi, the two states with the highest incarceration rates in the world, Innocence Project New Orleans frees innocent prisoners, exposes injustice and prevents wrongful convictions. IPNO has won the freedom or exoneration of 30 wrongfully convicted prisoners. These men served over 656 years in Louisiana and Mississippi’s prisons between them, which is an average almost 22 years of wrongful imprisonment each!
I’ve always thought of myself as the luckiest guy alive. The problem with this is that if there’s someone as fortunate as me, then there must be someone else on the opposite end of that spectrum. A few months ago, I meant that person and got to spend the weekend with him. His name is Daniel Tapia (bio: https://www.risingfoundations.org/daniel-tapia). He’s an extremely inspirational individual, and his story is truly unbelievable. I cannot give it justice here, so I urge you to listen to him tell it: https://art19.com/shows/wrongful-conviction-with-jason-flom/episodes/d33b159d-cdbd-423d-a17c-6e3d1895579c. Help IPNO save these people from their living hell.
