Almost two years ago, I can remember my Dad picking me up from college and relaying the devastating news that he was diagnosed with tongue cancer. His life became doctors visit after doctors visit as I watched him endure rigorous radiation and immunotherapy everyday for months. There is no easy way to take on cancer, but if I've learned anything it cannot be done alone. It is with the unwavering support from my mom, our family, and friends that I can say my Dad is currently cancer free. This October, my family and I will be walking in our second annual NYU Oral Cancer Walk to raise awareness for a cancer that deeply affects us and thousands of other families. This cancer, and specifically HPV-related oral cancer, is surrounded by a troubling stigma that has no place when someone is in the fight for their life. Don't forget to share, share, share as we all know someone who has been affected by cancer!
