Sweet Home Jamaica
Let us tell you a story…the story of Jamaica. The little island that rose from humble beginnings to impacting the world. The land of good food, good vibes, and good music.
Here is where many memories began. A honeymoon by the sunset, a wedding in the sand, or the bright smiles of family relaxing by the sea...the sizzling jerk chicken, flaky patties, and crispy bammies. We have proudly shared our culture ‘to the world’, from Usain Bolt trailblazing on the Olympic track to Bob Marley’s sweet and profound reggae melodies.
We open our doors with wide smiles so that everyone, no matter the country, race, or background, can enjoy a slice of our sweet island home.
Because we stick to our motto: Out Of Many, One People.
What is this campaign about?
It is through the unity and love that binds us all, that we, the Private Sector Organisation of Jamaica, have launched the #StandforJamaica initiative to provide COVID-19 relief packages containing food, face masks, and sanitation products for over 150,000 Jamaicans.
Tourism is a major industry earner for our country, and with travel at a halt, thousands of self-sufficient Jamaicans have found themselves without employment at a time when it is difficult to find a job.
Many breadwinners are now struggling to provide one of the most basic necessities for their families: food.
The aim of the #StandforJamaica initiative is to ease the burden of over 150,000 unemployed Jamaicans by providing food security through COVID-19 relief packages at a time when it is so desperately needed.
How Will Your Donations Help?
Every mickle mek a muckle! This means no matter how small your donation, it can go towards supporting at least one Jamaican in need.
In partnership with the Council of Voluntary Social Services, United Way of Jamaica, and other stakeholders, your donations can help us to provide one package containing: canned food, fresh produce, face masks, and sanitation supplies to provide for one Jamaican for a two week period.
This is to provide the basic necessities to persons until this difficult time passes over, no one should be without food and basic hygiene products.
These packages will be given to two main groups who have the highest need for food security during this COVID-19 pandemic:
At-risk population: Persons over 65 who are unable to work for themselves due to health issues, mobility issues, and overall increased risk levels.
Displaced communities: Families residing in communities with a large level of unemployment, and decreased economic activity.
We have partnered with the Jamaica Defense Force to ensure that ALL packages are delivered safely and effectively to the members of each group, co-operating with our safety guidelines.
Our Campaign Goal
Target goal: $2,000,000 Food Packages Delivered: 167,000
For every $12 USD donated, a Jamaican can be provided with food packages for 2 weeks.
Our target goal is to provide 165,000 Jamaicans with the peace of mind of knowing that their basic needs are met.
Note: For our American donors, this donation is tax-deductible, as American Friends of Jamaica is a registered charity in the United States.
Larger packages with additional medical supplies will be offered to families containing elderly persons and young children under the age of 5 years old.
Main Stakeholders: Private Sector Organization of Jamaica(PSOJ), Council of Voluntary Social Services(CVSS), American Friends of Jamaica, and United Way of Jamaica.
This fund is set up and managed by the PSOJ.
ALL proceeds gathered from this campaign will be used for the distribution and purchase of the relief packages, and will be monitored accordingly by the United Way of Jamaica Foundation.
Let us flip the positive of social distancing to social assisting. Help us to preserve the greatness, the good memories, and the joyful vibes of sweet sweet Jamaica.
No matter the country, race, or background. We are all Jamaican to the CORE!
And thanks to you, we will emerge from this period stronger, together! #StandforJamaica
