My name is Karen Leighton and I am a healthcare professional. As someone who is essential and must commute to work every day, despite the stay-at-home order, I realized there should be a way for us to represent ourselves as essential employees while on the road. Since the pandemic, there is a widespread shortage of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in hospitals, skilled nursing and rehab facilities, long-term care communities, and essential business; every employee deserves enough materials to not only protect themselves but to also protect those they are working with.
If you are an essential employee still commuting to work during this confusing time, make it known to all! Purchasing a bumper sticker has two purposes. One is to make sure frontline employees are represented on the road, and the second is to donate proceeds to Direct Relief in order to increase protection for those vulnerable to the virus. The shortage of PPE in facilities that have been contaminated with COVID-19 is a serious health risk for employees and patients. You can purchase a bumper sticker at https://www.etsy.com/shop/EssentialEmployees in order to raise money for Direct Relief, or donate through this fundraising page without purchase.
Save lives, stay home, essential travel only! My hope is that the majority of us on the road are healthcare workers and essential personnel. But as a healthcare professional myself, I drive to and from work wondering where the other cars are going. My commute is so different these days and I think to myself, "Please obey traffic laws and speed limits. Those of us who have to be on the road would like to get there safely."
