Four years ago, I was introduced to “I Run 4 Michael,” an organization that matches an individual with a disability with a runner. The runner “donates” the miles that they run to their running buddy. I was lucky enough to be matched with the most amazing, kind-hearted and caring person, Shelby. Throughout the past 4 years, Shelby and I have inspired each other to consistently better ourselves and set new goals that will challenge us.
The relationship formed through this amazing program has motivated me to sign up for my first IRONMAN. A full triathlon (140.6 miles) that includes a 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike ride, and 26.2 mile run all completed in 1 day (under 17 hours to be exact, in order to make the cutoff to finish). Throughout my training, I will also complete a 100-mile bike race, an aquathon, and a half IRONMAN (70.3 miles) on top of the hours of training I will be putting in each week.
When training for my IRONMAN, Shelby and I want to do MORE! WE want to raise money for an organization WE are both SOOO passionate about. United Cerebral Palsy is an organization that is near and dear to both of our hearts. United Cerebral Palsy assists individuals with disabilities by providing services and support to children and their families. They work to ensure inclusion of individuals with disabilities in society and push for social, legal, and technical changes to improve accessibility and independence in the community.
Throughout my undergraduate, I was lucky enough to work for this organization and observe first-hand the amazing services that they are able to provide to individuals with disabilities and their families.
Shelby was born with cerebral palsy and has benefited tremendously from the services that United Cerebral Palsy has to offer throughout her life. Fundraising for this program will help all of the amazing kiddos that benefit from the services this program provides. When donating, 100% of the proceeds will go to United Cerebral Palsy if the donor chooses to cover the credit card processing fees.
Please help Shelby and I reach our goal of $1,927 (1 dollar for each mile between Shelby's house in California and my house is Wisconsin) by donating to this amazing organization. Any donation will help provide a life without limits for people with disabilities. Thanks for all of your love and support on this crazy journey, any donation is greatly appreciated :)
