Brooklyn Animal Action has been rescuing and caring for homeless animals in New York City since 2010. Our 10th anniversary #ActionCat Walk has to be a little different, but now the cats (previously left at home during our walkathons) get to participate! This year, we'll be strolling together virtually: so gather your cats, dogs, hamsters, turtles, fish, and join us!
At 11 am on Sunday, May 10th , we want you to “walk” with us—lace up your slippers and take a walk around your home! While you’re walking, take a picture or video of you and your family—fur, feather, scale, fin, or human—strutting their stuff and post it to social media and tag us! Use @brookynanimalaction on Facebook/Instagram and add any of these hashtags: #actioncat2020 #baawalkathon #baacouchathon #brooklynanimalaction.
We’ll be going live on social media during the walkathon so you can see some of our foster kitties strutting their stuff! Is there something special you want to see? Let us know! Stay tuned for some exciting prizes to be announced over the next two weeks for highest fundraisers, most social media shares, and more!
BAA relies exclusively on donations to fund our lifesaving work. Due to the current pandemic, this year’s walkathon is more crucial than ever for various reasons:
-all spay/neuter clinics are closed, so we have to go to private vets for all procedures, which costs roughly $50 more per cat
-due to the shortage of spay/neuter appointments, rescue groups have been advised to discontinue routine trap-neuter-return (TNR), which helps control the feral cat population; this means kitten season (which has just begun) will hit hard, requiring more resources than ever
-with many New Yorkers out of work and otherwise affected by illness/death due to the coronavirus, more cats will need rehoming and more friendly cats will be dumped outside and require rescue (an unfortunate consequence of more people being unable to care for their animals)
Your fundraising will help Brooklyn Animal Action continue to rescue hundreds of homeless, orphaned and abandoned animals and perform TNR to reduce the population of vulnerable feral cat colonies. So join us! Set up a fundraising page, share with your family and friends, and “walk” with us!
