Times are hard for many, and utility bills are piling up. Winneshiek Energy District and our local Green Iowa AmeriCorps Team are upping our game to help.
We’re going to more than double the number of LED lightbulbs distributed to lower income families this year, from roughly 2,000, to 4 or even 5,000! Every dollar raised will go directly towards these lighting resources.
In normal times, the team visits homes to complete home energy assessments and install efficiency measures. After this service, families see an average yearly savings of $125 on their utility bills. The majority of savings comes from upgrading the lightbulbs to high efficiency LEDs.
Through our new Bright Box program, piloted to serve customers during COVID-19, we are replacing bulbs faster and further than ever before! The team works with families to conduct a remote whole house lighting inventory, then packs up the bulbs needed for each house and delivers them straight to the customer's door.
The GIA team is also partnering with the Food Pantry. Not only are they working regularly, but also giving out free 4 packs of lightbulbs to all food pantry customers that want them!
These Bright Bags including information on our full Bright Box program, plus information on LIHEAP (Low Income Heating Assistance Program) and other critical resources available to help.
Help us buy all the lightbulbs we'll need to expand our programming. Spread Light in the Time of Coronavirus! Plus, double your impact if you donate today by helping us earn a $1000 match from GoFundMe!
