Harlem Grown's Summer Camp is BACK, and we need your help to sponsor each of our 50 campers this year. It's thanks to you that we're able to keep summer camp completely FREE for all participants!
Camp engages children ages 7 to 14 in daily hands-on farming, cooking, and healthy living activities, while providing mentoring experience to children ages 15 to 18. They all explore nature, sustainability, and food through weekly themed activities, and all produce grown by the campers is taken home to their families or given to other members of the community, free of charge.
The total cost of feeding and educating each student over the course of seven weeks, including administrative fees, is $3,000:
$150 covers daily meals (harvested from and cooked on the farm), healthy snacks & drinks, and each student's personal items (a t-shirt, water bottle, and backpack).
$350 is dedicated to all supplies used on the farm, such as gardening trowels, cookwear, and fitness gear, as well as board games, arts & crafts, and materials for science experiments. Plus of course, sanitizers, masks, and first aid kits.
$500 will provide a partial stipend to our Counselors in Training as they cultivate leadership skills.
$1,500 covers the travel costs of field trips and service projects, ranging from local neighborhood parks and museums to farmer's markets and rural farms.
Our goal, made all the more important by the events of 2020, is to inspire youth to live healthy, ambitious lives; to get them excited about farming; to help them become environmental stewards; and to build their leadership, self-confidence, and teamwork skills.
Please give what you can!
