Saturday June 15th at 2:00 pm on Mount Royal we walk together to support the safety and wellbeing of Indigenous women and children. As a Spirit Walker, I am collecting pledges online to raise money for the Native Women’s Shelter of Montreal to help keep the women and children of the Shelter safe and connected to their traditional healing practices.
The funds raised make the Shelter’s Indigenous-centred Healing Retreat possible, meaning women and children will have a much needed opportunity to reconnect with nature and participate in traditional healing practices and ceremonies, including drumming, participating in the Sweat Lodge, and connecting with elders.
All donations over $20 will receive a tax receipt. All registered walkers will receive a t-shirt (included in the cost of registration). The t-shirt has been designed by a resident of the Shelter.
Location & details:
1-2PM Registration / T-shirts at the George-Étienne Cartier Monument (Angel statue) on Parc Avenue.
2PM Opening Remarks with Elder Sedalia Fazio, music by Beatrice Deer Band and Odaya.
3PM We walk!
4PM Snacks, music by Buffalo Hat Singers and we'll announce the grand total!
For anyone with mobility concerns who would like to participate, please contact us at spirit.walk.nwsm@gmail.com. Everyone is welcome! All walkers receive a T-shirt made by a shelter resident. Bring your friends, family, and pets and come WALK WITH US!
