Spidermonkey Cycling Club will be riding in Milwaukee on Saturday, August 28th, 2021 to support Urban Initiatives!
Urban Initiatives (UI) is a non-profit in Chicago that provides sport and play-based programming to elementary, middle and high school students in Chicago Public Schools. These programs empower youth to become future leaders of Chicago through academic success, social-emotional learning and building social capital.
Spidermonkey Cycling is a cycling club based out of Chicago, IL. Formed in 2007, they have over 100 members who participate in all forms of cycling, from competitive to recreational and everything in between. Spidermonkey has been a dedicated partner of UI for many years and has hosted a fundraiser for them each year since 2017!
UI's programs are typically a robust catalog of in person, after-school programming for Chicago Public School (CPS) students. Due to the pandemic, UI hosted all program sessions virtually for students during the 2020-2021 school year. In addition, UI has focused on providing students with resources and tools to utilize connection for the sake of resiliency and healing. The pandemic has only exacerbated the stress and challenges that UI’s students face and it is important to foster sustainable, collective, and youth-centered healing.
UI is hard at work making plans for in-person summer camps and fall programs that will bring us back to our pre-pandemic levels of youth engagement, and most importantly, back to pre-pandemic levels of play, teamwork, and fun!
Chicago’s youth need reliable, consistent support now more than ever, and your donation to the Spidermonkey Charity Ride can help provide more students with access to UI’s impactful, play-based social-emotional learning programming.
Every donation counts! Thank you so much for your support!
