The Speedway is on a temporary hiatus due to the current Covid 19 pandemic, and although we are safe and able to regroup, others in our community are suffering. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, many Allston-Brighton community members cannot afford food.
We want to help. We want to give you the opportunity to help too.
With the help of our state Representative Michael Moran, we are teaming up with our next door neighbor, Charles River Community Health, and locally owned Katsiroubas Brothers to bring fresh produce boxes to those in need in Brighton.
Over the next 4 weeks, The Speedway is donating 40 produce boxes each week to help combat food insecurity in our neighborhood. Each box contains enough fresh fruits and vegetables to feed a family for a week.
Please help us to do more!
For $25, you can contribute one box to Brighton.
For $100, you can donate one box each week for four weeks.
For $1000, we can extend the program by another week.
The spirit, creativity, and kindness with which so many people around us are addressing these issues is inspiring. For this intitiave, we have taken inspiration from our good friend and collaborator Maggie Battista, who is trailblazing a community outreach program in Chelsea, one of the hardest hit areas in the Commonwealth.
Katsiroubas Brothers is a locally owned, family run produce wholesaler that has been in business for over 100 years. They have been working tirelessly through this crisis, delivering critically needed food to hospitals, nursing homes and neighborhoods like Chelsea and Brighton, and bringing meals to frontline healthcare workers in our local hospitals.
We are also taking inspiration from another trailer blazer, Lynda Cowin Nijensohn, who is spearheading a sewing group that has made over 11,000 masks. 80 of those hadmade masks went to CRHC last week. 80 more will go this week.
100% of donations accepted will be used to purchase produce boxes that will be safely distributed by CRCH to their patients and the community.
