Hey everyone! Thanks for coming to my Fundraising Page!
Special Olympics Massachusetts (SOMA) has been an integral part of my life for many years. I first was inspired to become involved because of my close relationship to a family member with Autism. After watching his amazing sports experiences, I decided I wanted to join an organization that would allow me to work with individuals with disabilities. At the time, I was 15 years old. Immediately, I fell absolutely in love with the athletes and SOMA.
Upon applying to college, I knew that I wanted to go into Special Education, after being inspired by all of the wonderful athletes I met in the 3 seasons/years that I was coaching them. I am now a Senior at Vanderbilt University in the Special Education program. I am so excited to devote my life to the individuals that have changed mine. I have also just started a Special Olympics club at Vanderbilt. We just finished our very first flag football season and we are now headed into our first basketball season in January.
During the summers of 2015, 2016, and 2017, I worked as an intern for SOMA. Everyone I met through these summers, staff, students, athletes, and teachers included, have only reinforced my decision to go into Special Education.
Last year, I was fortunate enough to be given the opportunity to run the 2017 Boston Marathon for Special Olympics Massachusetts. Now, I am lucky enough to say that I am back again for a second year, running the 2018 Boston Marathon for Special Olympics Massachusetts! As running is a passion of mine, I am thrilled to be able to run for SOMA and for all of the incredible athletes that have enriched my life in so many ways.
