In Ukraine, parents of children with special needs are encouraged to hand their children over to state care. They are told their children will be a burden on society and are unworthy of love. Children are sent to orphanages and institutions where they are subjected to abuse and neglect.
Olya is 6 years old. Her birth was a difficult one and she sustained a hypoxic brain injury. As a result she has been diagnosed with Ataxic Cerebral Palsy. (Ataxic cerebral palsy is a type of cerebral palsy that affects a person's balance, coordination, and depth perception.) Olya is also visually impaired. She can stand and walk with someone holding her hand. But she cannot walk independently yet. Her mother does all she can to help her develop and thrive but she has epilepsy herself so money is always tight.
We have been providing Olya with diapers and medicines for the last several months. When we posted her recent delivery, some of our supporters noted she had outgrown her stroller and wanted to help purchase her a new one. Her mother has identified one that would suit their needs and can be built to fit her size. Now we just need your help to raise the funds needed to purchase it! Can you help?
