Never in a million years would I ever think i'd be running in the Boston Marathon!
2019 started off rocky for me, being a working mother with 4 children, a wife and nurse - i put everyone elses needs before my own and forgot to take care of me. That is when i started running again and i fell in love all over again. I had a new freedom and peace of mind as I hit the pavement before sunrise, often catching the sun rising over the Beaches of Cape Cod. The serenity I have found in running has allowed me to push myself to do things I felt were "impossible". I've learned that I can do more than ever thought possible . I ran my 1st Falmouth Road Race and Cape Cod Half Marathon this year and beat my personal goals each time!
When I came across Team Xtra Mile for the Special Olympics Massachusetts , I felt a strong connection for this cause and compelled to apply for a spot for their Marathon Team, largely in support of my beautiful 10 year old niece, Carolynn. Carolynn was born prematurely, weighing in at 2lbs and with a great set of lungs! She continues to persevere in everything she does despite some of the challenges she may face, a true inspiration!
After applying for the team and an interview process, I was selected and offered a position on Xtra Mile! I now set forth to fundraise for this great cause, Special Olympics Massachusetts and continue my physical training to get Marathon ready for April 2020!
