It is often emphasized here at UGA's athletic program to find something "more than your sport" and for Jess and I this is what our heart was drawn to. Ever since we stepped into our first Special Olypmics gymnastics practice four years ago, we never looked back. It is so rewarding to see their smiles on their faces just because they are having the time of their lives. We are hoping to make this year the best year yet and could really use your support!
Special Olympics at UGA is a nonprofit that serves individuals in the Athens-Clarke County community through direct hands-on service as well as fundraising. On a weekly basis we have adaptive PE classes at the ACC schools and gymnastics and basketball practices to prepare the athletes for the winter games. A couple of our big events each year include prom, baseball, and an Easter egg hunt. We also do monthly social groups with adults who have graduated out of the school system, and we put on events such as movie nights and cookouts. All fundraising profits go directly towards Athens-Clarke County to help pay for equipment, transportation, and registration so we can send our athletes to the State Games. Thank you so much for your support!
